Anna Gillespie is a sculptor based in Bath whose figurative work uses the human body to explore personal experience and wider social concerns. After studying politics, economics and international relations, she trained in stone masonry and carving in Bath, worked as an assistant to Nigel Konstam in Italy and completed an MA in Fine and Media Arts in Cheltenham. Her sculptures focus on the tension between strength and vulnerability, seeking an inner emotional reality through physical form. In works developed from life casts, detailed bodily impressions are interrupted by retained or heightened cracks and faults that suggest fragility. Themes of witnessing, turning away and environmental limits connect these figures to contemporary crises. Her practice also includes public-space and cathedral projects, dance collaborations and work held by museums and sculpture collections.
