About
KREL is an independent knitwear atelier and fibre art studio founded by fashion designer and textile artist Karelle Levy in 2002, now based in Savannah, Georgia. Levy holds a BFA in Textile Design from the Rhode Island School of Design, and her practice spans clothing, sculptural textiles and community art projects. She programs garments with the Shima Seiki APEX 3 system, knits them on an industrial knitting machine and finishes each piece by hand. The collections use predominantly plant-based yarns, including bamboo, cotton and lyocell, with many designs available in customised colours or fibres. Production centres on limited quantities and made-to-order pieces, while yarn remnants and prototypes are repurposed into artwork, accessories and toys. Beyond garments, Levy creates large-scale fibre installations and participatory projects such as The Interknit.
