Aera the Label is the Auckland-based fashion practice of designer Nana Doan. The label creates contemporary garments through made-to-order collections and bespoke commissions, drawing on a background in art and photography. Personal experiences and questions of identity are explored through texture, shape and the silhouette of clothing. The portfolio brings together capsule collections, one-off pieces and wedding work rather than relying on a single repeated product. Bespoke services include adapting an existing style in a different material or developing an original garment with the wearer. Pieces are created in-house from beginning to end, keeping design experimentation closely connected to the process of making.
