Joseph Ludkin is a studio potter and ceramic artist working at Croft Pottery in Rainton, North Yorkshire. He makes reduction-fired functional pottery and ceramic art, drawing on Japanese and Korean techniques alongside the landscapes and places he explores. His process incorporates foraged clays and silts into clay bodies and slip decoration, while organic ash, rocks and minerals contribute to his glazes. Topography, local materials and folkloric narratives connect the finished objects to particular sites through form, patterns and emblems. His exhibition history includes the International Yunomi Invitational in Ohio, London Design Festival and the Craft Potters Association's York Ceramics Fair in 2024. Alongside his own practice and online shop, he teaches at Croft Pottery and describes twenty years of experience across further, higher and adult education.
