Emily Stubbs is a British ceramicist based in York, North Yorkshire, whose work investigates the relationship between vessel forms and surface decoration. She builds vessels by combining textured clay slabs, translating ideas from paper collages and sketches into three-dimensional pieces. Layers of slips and glazes give the finished ceramics a graphic character, with strong lines, bold colours and intuitive marks. Emily is a founding member of PICA Studios, an artist-led collective housed in an eighteenth-century printworks in the centre of York. Alongside exhibiting ceramics in galleries and events around the United Kingdom, she offers workshops combining coiling, pinching and slab building with surface techniques such as monoprinting, slip trailing and sgraffito. Her online shop also presents ceramic wall pieces.
