Rachael King is an Australian surface pattern designer and watercolour artist living in Queensland’s Samford Valley. Her work uses loose, organic shapes and vivid painted colour to interpret her local surroundings, with further experimentation in different media and digital techniques. She moved into the field through graphic design study in 2014, building on earlier work in design, marketing and administration in Brisbane and London. Exhibiting at Surtex in New York in 2017 and 2018 led to her first licensing agreement with Spotlight Australia. Her practice includes licensed prints, greeting card artwork and a continuing library of designs supplied to a print-on-demand fabric business. She also wrote and published the two Pattern Pulse books, which present Australian surface designers, and teaches through workshops, retreats and individual coaching.
