Andy Lomas is a computational artist and mathematician whose work investigates how simulated growth can produce complex sculptural forms. His practice draws on scientific ideas associated with Alan Turing, D'Arcy Thompson and Ernst Haeckel, using computation to explore the boundary between organic structure and abstract form. The portfolio brings together series such as Cellular Forms, Plantlike Forms, Hybrid Forms and Digital Chemotaxis. His artworks have been exhibited at institutions and events including the V&A, the Pompidou Centre, SIGGRAPH and Ars Electronica. Cellular Forms received the Lumen Prize Gold Award in 2014. Alongside his art practice, Lomas has worked in computer-generated film effects, with production credits including the Matrix sequels and Avatar, and Emmy awards for The Odyssey and Alice in Wonderland.
