Playmodes is an audiovisual workshop led by Eloi Maduell and Santi Vilanova since 2006, bringing artistic practice together with music, science and technological research. Its work spans light sculptures, kinetic instruments, projection and theatrical scenography, with an emphasis on abstract relationships between sound and image. The workshop builds its own tools, combining software development with physical electronics rather than treating technology as a finished medium. Maduell's background is in computer engineering, while Vilanova trained in graphic design and developed a practice in sound art and creative technology. Their portfolio includes immersive light and sound environments, audiovisual instruments and generative prints. Vilanova's recent research also connects digital algorithms and sonification with musical notation and acoustic ensembles.
