Josey Garbutt is a furniture designer and maker based in Oxfordshire, creating bespoke pieces and limited editions that sit between functional objects and sculpture. His designs draw on mathematics, engineering, natural forms and the behaviour of materials. Working predominantly with locally sourced hardwoods, he combines traditional joinery and hand carving with contemporary processes including CNC machining. He studied fine art before completing a First Class degree at Rycotewood Furniture Centre. Pieces develop through sketches, prototypes and detailed construction studies, followed by extensive hand-finishing. The studio welcomes enquiries about commissions and visits to his workshop at the Sylva Wood Centre.
