Rafal Krol is a Dublin-based photographer originally from Bielsko-Biala, Poland, who has lived in Ireland since 2004. After beginning with a compact camera to document life abroad, he gradually concentrated his practice on minimalist black-and-white seascape and landscape photography. Coastlines, mountains and quiet natural spaces are recurring subjects, and he uses the absence of colour to place greater emphasis on framing and composition. Krol mainly works with medium-format cameras including Hasselblad and Holga, giving the practice a deliberate and materially specific photographic process. His work has received multiple International Photography Awards distinctions, a PX3 award and selection for annual exhibitions at the Royal Hibernian Academy and Royal Ulster Academy.
