Maren Lamb is a Philadelphia-based printmaker whose mixed-media practice centres on woodcut and plate monotype. Lamb studied art with a printmaking focus at Guilford College and also works with relief and intaglio processes, painting, drawing and wheel-thrown ceramics. Drawing is a starting point for the work, with the speed and fluidity of monotype extending an ongoing interest in spontaneous mark making. Natural materials enter the process through plant stencilling, while botanical forms and animals provide subjects for both recognisable images and abstractions. These interests connect the current practice with a childhood spent making things outdoors and finding imaginative possibilities in ordinary surroundings. Across prints and ceramics, Lamb uses playful interpretations of familiar imagery to offer moments of comfort and attention to everyday life.
