Charles Clary is a hand-cut paper artist based in Conway, South Carolina, whose layered constructions link imagined landscapes with the forms of sound waves and microscopic life. He builds coloured paper into projecting terrains that suggest bacterial colonies, fungal growth and other expanding structures. More recent work incorporates drywall, discarded wallpaper and references to childhood popular culture, connecting material excavation with memory and grief. Clary holds painting degrees from Middle Tennessee State University and the Savannah College of Art and Design. His official biography documents international paper-art exhibitions, including the CODA Museum and Shanghai paper biennials in 2021. He also teaches studio art at Coastal Carolina University and received the top prize at ArtFields in 2016.
