Fairlight Prints is the printmaking practice of Sophie Brogden, who creates handmade linocuts and etchings in Surrey. Flowers, gardening and the movement of plants provide the starting points for her observational drawings. She transfers these studies to lino, carves the blocks by hand and prints them on a Rollaco press, generally producing limited editions. Her intaglio work uses zinc and steel plates, with aquatint introducing a wider range of tonal effects. Different papers are chosen for the requirements of relief printing and etching, including Fabriano and Somerset stocks. Her work is available through her own collection and selected galleries, and she also considers commissions.
