Oscar Guerrero Cañizares is an independent type designer who has run Sumotype in Bogotá, Colombia, since 2014. The foundry combines typography, lettering and branding with a strong interest in historical sources, producing retail families as well as custom typefaces and logotypes. Guerrero completed postgraduate study in type design at the University of Buenos Aires and also teaches typography at university and master's level, extending the studio's research into education. Sumotype's custom projects range from brewery and food-brand identities to bespoke communication type, while its retail catalogue includes families such as Brigada, Epica Pro, Fuga, Gregor, June, Playland and Vala. The studio's work has been selected by Tipos Latinos and other international design programmes and has received repeated recognition in typography competitions.
