Woodpeckers Toys is the two-person practice of Chloe and Valentin, creating wooden toys and costumes in Powell River, British Columbia. The pair met while studying art in Annecy, France, and established the business in 2014 after settling on the Canadian coast. Their shared studio is divided between woodworking and fabric production, with every toy made locally. The wooden collection includes sailboats, swords, shields and classic games, using locally harvested or sustainably sourced timber where possible. Work combines power tools with hand-tool finishing, followed by careful sanding and a wax-and-oil coating. The fabric side of the practice uses Canadian-sourced felt and cloth for costumes and nursery decor, developing templates through experimentation before producing small series.
