Silverkupe is the independent jewellery studio of designer and maker Emine Thompson in Newcastle's Ouseburn district. Her practice uses recycled silver and gold, drawing on jewellery traditions encountered while living in Istanbul and on more than twenty-five years of teaching design and 3D modelling. Established as a small business in 2017, the studio combines traditional silversmithing, metal clay and sculptural techniques. Oxidised surfaces, vitreous enamels and 24-carat gold accents introduce contrasting tones and colours into her pieces. Alongside her own collections and commissions, Emine runs jewellery-making workshops and has her work hallmarked at the Edinburgh Assay Office.
